We did not know we had to file home stead when we bought our house. we paid vacation property taxes?

FOR TWO YEARS LIKE THIS AND DID NOT KNOW.CAN'T WE GET OUR MONEY BACK? THEY CAN SEE WE DID NOT OWE THAT MUCH MONEY. I FEEL THEY ARE RIPPING US OFF AND THEY KNOW IT, THEY WON'T GIVE US BACK THE MONEY, WHEN THEY KNOW WE SHOULD NOT HAVE PAID THAT MUCH, ARE THERE ANY LAWS TO HELP US?|||a; what are the amounts we are talking about?

it might cost you more to get a refund than

if you absorbed the lesson and just lived.

b; the IRS will likely refund the money to you

if you list it has a business expense or

damage or something creative but legal.

c; u can also file it with your state tax returns

and get it back.

d; invest wisely else where and write it off.|||I am not a real estate lawyer, but who is "they" in your question? The lender? The IRS?

Also, unless you are referring to something else, "Homestead" only protects you against a lawsuit, up to a percentage of your residence.|||Please say where you live, so people can maybe give you a good answer.|||You have to go to Chief County Assessment Office in your town and write them a letter to change your home stead for next year. They will not give you any refund for previous years, but fix for a future. Good Luck!|||you can't get property tax back no matter how hard you try, first that tax money pays all the county employees that includes the judge, county attorneys,Sheriff, and jailer plus all the other county workers....Good Luck....I don't think any of them are going to give up any of their pay!
