Is there such a thing as insurance against a ruined vacation. Meaning the non refundable money paid for the?

vacation.

Like now when so many airplanes can't take off in New York City. Causing many people to miss their year end vacations. That they paid and planned for 6 months ago with non refundable money.|||There are several types of insurance for that type of event...Some (higher) ticket classes have it built-in.Some credit card companies offer it by default if you purchase tickets and /or hotel rooms using their cards.Other companies like AIG/Travelguard offer it as well as several banks.Commonly these cover things like lost luggage..unforeseen flight cancellations and layovers-extra hotel bills,meals.. etc..It's wise to purchase it especially if traveling in the winter if you don't have it-but you have to note if you file a claim(and I have a couple times) you should always keep everything-not just receipts but (several)printed copies of your original itinerary ,scanned copies of boarding passes and all email correspondence with insurance companies-and document the details of all phone calls made to customer service regarding who you talked to and what they said.|||Sort of. It's called ticket protector. It usually costs around 4% of the ticket price. Coverage usually include medical emergencies, car accidents, terrorist attacks, airline delays or cancellations, natural disasters, death of traveler or family member, adverse weather, airline strikes and jury duty. You have to read the fine print, though.

Update (based on the additional details added later): There's also travel insurance. IT starts at 4% to 6% of the total cost of your trip, and goes up from there. Sometimes up quite a bit. It covers rental cars, lost or stolen luggage, hotel reservations and any tickets such as amusement park passes.|||Travel insurance usually just covers the travel expenses, not the hotels and such. Most Travel Insurance excludes weather as something they will pay off on.

You may want to call a travel agency in your area and ask if they could assist you. If anyone has current information for your specific area, they would.|||Yes, it's called travel insurance. Obviously, you have to buy it ahead of time. If you have to invest a lot of money ahead of time that's non-refundable, it's a good idea, especially at a time of year when weather can be adverse (hurricane season, winter storms, etc)
