If you were offered an all expense paid vacation for 2 to any place you chose where would you choose and why?

I would to South India and visit every place listed in this old book I found, Temple of Tamil Nadu.

I get paid for vacation time that I have used only once a year.....?

I have two weeks of vacation time and when I use vacation days they do not include the pay on my check. I only get paid for that time once a year, so if I take 3 days of vacation in June, I don't get paid for that time until April. In other words my check will be short 3 days for that week. I am wondering if this is legal. Should they be paying me interest on that money that they are holding for almost a year?|||in the US as long as they have a policy and they follow it then that is legal.

the law does not mandate that any time off of any kind be paid so any time off that is paid may be done so according to the companies plan that is in place.

with the plan you mention here it seems that they do not pay for "time off" but rather pay what is called vacation pay and it is just extra pay that is usually paid out at the end of the companies fiscal year. this company probably ends there fiscal year in April.|||unless you have a contract that spells out how you are to be paid for vacation, they don't have to pay you anything for not working. you are lucky to get anything at all|||Be glad you get vacation time. In this day of employers treating employees worse and worse, be grateful. Many employees don't get any paid time off.|||That's an unusual way to do it, but it's legal. They are actually not required to pay you at all for vacation time.

If you won a all expense paid vacation where would you go?

you are in charge of the itinirary.|||Where would I go? EVERYWHERE...

I'd start in the rainforests and ruins of the ancient cultures of Central America (Belize and Guatemala) to the jungles of Costa Rica and into South America through the Brazilian Amazon to the Argentine plains and all the way to Tierra del Fuego at the base of Chile. Then I'd fly to Japan and go through China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia. Then it would be off to Russia (to see the Kremlin!) and a flight to Eastern Europe to check out Croatia, Bulgaria, Latvia, and Ukraine. From there, I'd go to the staples of Western Europe (France, Portugal, Germany, Denmark), loop up through Scandinavia and descend through Spain to Granada and go from there into Northern Africa (Morocco, Tunisia) and into continental and southern Africa to the wildlife preserves of Kenya and Tanzania and then back North and into the Middle East/North Africa (Egypt, Dubai) and then very, very reluctantly, I'd go home...|||Hi,,, wow,,, ok,,, hawaii to tahiti,,, to hong kong, to bankok, to dubai, to cairo, to athens, to rome, to florence, to vienna, to prague, to munich, to St.Petersburg, to amsterdam, to paris, to london, to home... with 2 weeks at least at each place.....

good luck|||Colombia|||Australia - Prabably in the Outback because I do not like big cities...... I would really love to go through the Opal Mines......|||south africa|||Venice. Italy.

Stay at the Gritti Palace.

Drink at Harry's bar, Look at beautiful frescos, marvel at the marble|||Touring Sweden. I am of Swedish ancestry in part on both my mother and father's side. Can speak (a little) so would love to go visit the town my family came from turn of the last century - and train from Stockholm and travel far north to see the Northern Lights. Planning this for next year (hopefully)|||I would return back to Spain and go to all the paradores and evey nook and cranny of that beautiful country!

Then top it off with a quick visit to Paris and London.. 2 "Must go" to cities when I visit Europe!|||Thailand, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong...|||I would like to travel the U.S.A. I would start on the East Coast and go south to Florida, travel west and stop at every museum and road side zoo in every state. I want to see it all.|||i would go to italy and go see all those statues!!! i always wawnted to go there. and if that didnt work out, i would go to france and see the louvre and all those beautiful paintings plus i want to see the eifell tower.|||Tahiti, Bahamas, one of those exotic places. Just relax, swim, snorkel. If you haven't been to Alaska Go to Alaska freaking amazing. Go on a carnival 10-day cruise so u dont ahve to worry about the itinirary .. From South alaska to the north if you go right now to NOrth Alaska 24/7 Sunlight. Its amazing. BUt Tahiti i havent been there but I've heard its amazing. I need more info to put together for you a schedule of sort because you havent given us the vacation duratoin.|||Australia!|||the turkish isles

No one needs three weeks of paid or unpaid vacation time a year, whose with me?

Be a man, you only need three days of vacation time and three days of sick time. If you get sick, that's your fault.

You get weekends off, so you're lucky you get any vacation at all. |||Yes!! ANd who needs a salary? |||Slave driver!|||Are you crazy? You want to give all your time to an employer, I think you may be a "brown noser"

Don't forget to take an apple for the boss on Monday

Should I take my 2 week paid vacation, and then quit my job?

I'm sick of my job. I never take a day off, I work a lot more than everyone else here, and my boss doesn't appreciate it. Last year, I didn't use my vacation days at all, so the girl from human resources wrote me an e-mail remindng me I have my 2 week vacaction. I want to quit my job, should I take the 2 week vacation, and then come back and tell them I quit?|||Sure, especially if you feel like you are underappreciated. YOU DESERVE IT! Take that time and if it makes you feel better, commit to one of your vacation days to sending out your resume. I would say you were a fool if you didn't take that vacation before quitting...|||I would, you earned that time why lose out.|||most places have to pay you your 2weeks vaca. do it if you can land another job while on vaca. just don't tell your new place your plans.|||No, quit your job and let them pay you for the 2 week vacation. Just be sure you have another job before you quit this one. :)|||I would take the 2 weeks vacation! Maybe if you had gone on that vacation you might feel different about your current job. In anycase do take that vacation 'cos by the time you are back you might not want to resign at all and even if you do resign the vacation would have been a great referesher and would give you renewed energy to start your new job with.|||You have three weeks coming to you - 2 weeks from last year and 1 week so far this year (maybe 6 days, depending on how they count it).

Take all 3 weeks at once and quit by phone in the first week of your vacation. And send a letter of resignation by registered mail with return receipt to your home address.|||Take your vacation and look for another job. If you quit you most probably will not get paid for your vacation time. But this is determined by your company policy, do you still have your employee handbook around?|||Not just yet, go out and find another job first, take the two weeks paid vacaction, and then give notice.|||If they wont pay you your time when you quit,

oh yes .|||no

you should quit now and not take your vacation

duuuuuuhhhh|||DO IT!|||you may want to take some of your vacation and then quit or all of it, wait a while and then quit. Although you hate your job and won't be looking back, it's important that you not burn your bridges behind you. Remember that you may need references later, and it won't look good if you take all your vacation, come back and quit.|||Make good use of your vacation. Take it and spend it looking for another job. It would not be too smart to quit if you don't already have something else.|||Hi, I work in HR and from a common sense stand point I would never use my vacation up and then quit. First off most companies pay you for leave that is not used when you leave. So if you use it all you will not get anything. Second not that I am suggesting this but if you really want to get back at them you should try and get fired that way you can get unemployment you get no unemployment if you quite. Just a thought|||Well, that depends on if you have another job you can start once you quit. If you hate your job that much and you have another job, then yes i would definitely say quit after your two week paid vacation.|||I would not do something like that.. I am pretty sure if you have 2 weeks coming to you for vacation pay... ( depending on where u live) it will be implimented in your last weeks check... If not.. No, I would not do that to a company, they could come after you for reimbusment|||Yes, because then on that 2 week vacation you can do interviews and find another job before you quit. Good luck!|||Put in your two weeks notice, take the vacation and finish it off with a bang. Make sure your employer knows why you are quitting. Make them realize what they are losing. They may even try to keep you.|||no its not sneaky . they have right to fire you so you are free to go . Don't spent your vacation . Go have some rest and take your money say goodbye to them :) I wish it will be relaxing for you

Good luck|||They will make you pay it back, You better read the company's by-laws first|||stick it to them. you earned it, now use it. just make sure you got somethnig else lined up afterwards.|||It's not a good idea to quit your job unless you have another job lined up. You will be seen as less employable.

Instead of wrapping yourself in your martyr cloak, write down a list of the things that most bother you about your job and try to figure out strategies for improving them. Part of the problem, as you said, is you never take vacation days. You need those to recharge %26amp; prevent burnout.

Is your boss really as unreasonable as you seem to think? Unless you have sat down with him/her and talked through your issues, you haven't given them an opportunity to see things from your point of view.

If all else fails, start looking for a new job. You should get paid for unused vacation if you then leave.|||Put in a three weeks' notice, take your two weeks' paid vacation, work one more week and then get out. That way your reference won't be ruined.

This is all assuming you already have a new job lined up.|||this is a good question. Depending on your company's policy--which you really should check out, you'll know the best answer.

For instance some companies will not pay you for unpaid vacation time after you quit, Other companies will not pay you for your vacation time if you quit before working "X" amount of full shifts after you come back from vacation and ect.

the best thing is to look out for yourself.

If you are giving too much and not getting enough in return stop. I was very uhappy for the longest time until one day I realized I was causing my own misery. So I stopped coming in extra early, I stopped staying late, I stopped doing favors for those who wouldn't do the same for me.

Ofcourse I learned that I needed to smile more, I also learned that is important to stay ahead of the pack but not at the expense of my energy, drive, and enthusiasm. Work smarter not harder.

good luck!|||That's what I would do. You earned it! Take it, enjoy it, and then go back and say you are done.|||I certainly wouldn't advise you to quit unless you have another job to go to. By all means have your 2 weeks vacation and enjoy yourself and relax. They say a change is as good as a rest.

Maybe if you still feel you want to quit you could use your 2 weeks to find another job. You may even change your mind about your work and realise that it was just a rest you needed.

Why don't you have a chat with your boss and tell them how you feel. They may not be aware that you feel so hard done by, and by the sounds of it you are a loyal member of the team so you have every right to ask for recognition.

Tell them you want to quit and they may bend over backwards and offer you more benefits to stay.

Don't be too hasty in your desicion.

Good luck|||hell yes. Y wouldnt you??|||Yes. You earned the vacation. Take or or take the money if you can cash it out.|||that's sneaky.. remind me never to employ you.|||Do it! Have fun and good luck!|||YES! Because in most states they don't have to give it to you after you quit. Better use it before you lose it.

Does every job have a paid vacation?

well my boss doesn't wanna pay me. I went on vacation to France for 15 days. My friends say that I need to have a paid vacation because all jobs do. So I was just wondering. I'm probably not gonna take legal action. I was just wondering.|||There are legally mandated employee benefits and there are those given by the employer. Normally, those given by the employer are better than the legally mandated benefits.

1. Check if the 15 days paid leave is

a mandatory benefit in your area

of work.

2. Check if your company's employee

benefit policy includes a 15 days

paid leave.|||No

In order to make sure you get a paid vacation you have to check your benefits package. Many lower funded jobs do not have paid vacations.

Paid vacations usually come with full time or salaried jobs but not with many temporary jobs or jobs that pay for less than 40 hours per week.|||the simple answer is no...you should definitely have had this information before you left on vacation and certainly now that you're back, you should ask your boss for the company's policy and procedure handbook (if available) and/or talk to your HR dept. about the company's benefits program....the more you know...and who knows, perhaps you do have some legal recourse, assuming you provided advance notice of your vacation and returned to work as expected...|||Lol, no, not every job has a paid vacation system in place. Always ask about that before you get hired.|||amazing how people think, companies are not obligated to give any benefits, and yes it is legal what ever that means.|||It depends on what country you live in. If you are in the US, you do NOT have a legal right to a paid vacation.

What do you think of a company that doesn't give employees any paid holidays or vacation days or benefits?

I am an Executive Assistant for a CEO and alls I get is $13 per hour, unpaid lunch and no vacation or holidays, no 401k or health benefits.

I am blessed to have a job, but at 40+ years old how does this guy think I will want to stay with the company? Would you?|||no that sucks. i would keep that job for now but definitely be looking for something else. i think employees should be rewarded for their hard work. find a large company or work for the government- they have great benefits and many paid days off. sounds like you work for slave drivers|||well its a job. They really are a dime a dozen. You can always find a crappy job. If you are in a position to look for another job or pursue a career, you should. Basically to me that says the company doesn't care about the employees. It also says everyone should just be happy to have a job. Remember the workforce supports the management. Without you the company doesn't exist. I wouldn't recommend saying that to the boss unless you have another job lined up. Or you could go ask if the could provide benefits. If you ask give a reason why ( you can't afford insurance on your own or you would like to start saving so you can retire. stuff like that). The worst thing they can say is no, but you will never know unless you ask, that's what I would do.|||that really stinks, but right now you are lucky to have a job at all. Start looking and once you have another job lined up, ask for it if they refuse turn in your notice. Stick with larger companies they have the benefits you need. Just be cautious with them too right now large companies are doing major layoffs and first in is first out. Good Luck!|||you have a choice.. but before you quit, keep in mind that times have changed and some employers have added benefits at own will. - I know i'm thinking twice into my actual necessities in case my employer decides to drop some of these perks to save some bucks... let's be prepared, not to mention the possibility of long term unemployment.|||I would say it sounds like where my brother works. They don't even get 30 mins for lunch, instead they get a 15 min break. I thought that was illegal until I read the labor laws and it says if you are scheduled to work OVER 8 hours they must give you a lunch period.|||thats terrible, u should leave

How come only the Senate gets a paid vacation?

most Jobs do.

Is it legal to not get paid vacation and a raise after a year of employment even though they told us we would?

they told me when I started working at kmart that I would get a paid vacation and a raise after a year employment and I have been there a year and a month and they are telling me that rules have changed and I get unpaid vacation and no raise, is that legal?|||yep - sorry it is|||Yes, sounds like their policy has changed. There is no legal requirement for paid vacation, or for raises except if minimum wage goes up and you'd be below minimum if you didn't get a raise, then they'd have to raise you to minimum wage.|||You have no written job contract. Vacations are an unregulated fringe benefit and no company is ever required to provide a paid vacation (or unpaid vacation, for that matter). Raises likewise are not required, and you could work for 10 years without a raise and have no cause for complaint.

Times are tough in retail, massive layoffs are occurring, and thank your lucky stars you still have a job. Save as much money as you can, pay off any debt you have, slash your spending, and be prepared for a cutback in hours at any time -- or layoff. It is entirely possible.

If you could have an all exenses paid vacation to anywhere in the world for 2 weeks??

with the one expectation that you had to write a 5000 word essay about something unique to the culture there. Where would you go and why?|||I would go to Macchu Pichu in Peru, and with two weeks would include side trips to other Inca sites and the Amazon rain forest, as well as a flight over the Nazca lines.

It would be interesting to see how the Indians live today and the villages and adaptations to high altitude and contrast the mountains with the Amazon river basin. And the Nazca lines would provide food for lots of thoughts about engineering and building them with such acuracy.|||Greece...just to see all of the ruins and temples would be plenty to write about.|||France|||Italy; and why not?|||i'd probably choose the maldives or fiji. i love the beach and the people there are culturally different from me.|||I'd be in ancient Egypt in a heart beat! Writing that essay would be fun and I'd love to see the tombs, artifacts, etc of ancient Egypt. Fun!

Why do you want to be public school teacher since you do NOT get paid during summer vacation?

why do you want to be public school teacher since you do NOT get paid during summer vacation? In US, what is people's view about teachers?? people respect teachers?!|||No, you DO get paid during summer vacation. The paychecks are divided up over 12 months.

The CONTRACT is a year-long deal. The number of teacher mandatory on-campus days is usually 182 to 190, depending on the district (36 or more weeks, once weekends are factored in), involving mostly instructional days, and some on-site training days, parent-teacher conference days, etc.

Throughout the year, including when on "vacation," teachers are engaged in professional development (taking graduate courses at the nearby college, attending conferences, reading professional journals at home, doing research on particular issues/skills at home, etc.), and continue to work on classroom plans/activities.... plus spend time with their families, do catch-up housework (it really piles up during the school year), work a second job to help make the bills, do volunteer work in the community, etc.

In the United States, most people NOT in the education field have no real clue about the qualification requirements, effort, committment, and professionalism that teachers really require to be in the field. Many think it is an "easy" job...but have never really looked at the job description or spent any time at a school. As a special education teacher, my job description written out by Human Resources is 5 pages long. Teachers are paid half to 1/3 what other professionals with similar education and job responsibility are paid. If you see a teacher with a nice car/house, look to what his/her spouse does for a living (or the teacher is in serious debt to have those things).|||You are very welcome!!!

|||Um, actually, many teachers get paid year round. They have the option of only being paid over 10 months versus 12.

There are millions of reasons to be a public school teacher. Great kids, great communities, holidays off, extended holidays, and it's fun.|||Wow....get payed all year round here in UK, regardless of holiday's.|||Actually, I don't.|||Teachers are on a "yearly salary".|||In Ontario, Canada teachers in the public schools are paid an annual salary for the number of days in the school year. Their contract runs from the first day of the school year to the last day of summer vacation. They are, however, only responsible for working during the school year days.

In response to the teacher bashing comment that is often aimed at teachers about being paid for a whole year and getting the summer off... In fact, teachers' salary is not based on their working a "whole year". They get the summer off because they were never expected to work it and their salary does not cover the number of days it would include. If they were required to work during the summer, their union would negotiate a proportionately higher salary.

In some school districts the union and the school board have agreed to a pay schedule which averages out the salary and distributes it to the staff during all 12 months of the year. In this way, teachers do not have to budget for themselves to get over the summer hiatus. They are often paid "during" the summer but not "for" the summer.

A benefit of being a teacher is that the working schedule gives us breaks during the year. A disadvantage of being a teacher is that there is no flexibility in the working schedule. (You can't get creative with your holidays and book them for the middle of the school year.)

Why do you want to be a public school teacher? The answer should be that you want to make a difference for children and you love teaching! If you're in it for any other reason, you're either not going to do a good job or you're going to burn out or you're going to hate your work and turn into a miserable grouch!

And since you asked - but about the U.S. and not Canada - in Ontario, people always seem to be "teacher bashing" and blaming things on the schools. However, when it comes to their own children's schools and teachers they are usually quite supportive.|||in the US teachers are not respected. Education is not respected.

teachers can opt to be paid in a 9 month time frame or over the entire year... of course most take the entire year option... so they have steady income each month to pay the bills... the yearly salary is the same it is just divided by 9 or 12 months depending on what the teacher wants.

before you say anything about teachers have a great cushy job go be a substitute for 1 week. Do you have any idea how many hours are put into teaching? grading papers, calling parents, preparing lesson plans...taking recertification classes|||You get paid all year - your annual salary is divided up into 12 months instead of the 10 months that are actually "worked." We teach so that others may learn. People have little to no respect for teachers or the profession. They think we don't have the intelligence to do anything else (my own mother thought the same). However, they are far from correct, as we have to know something about a lot of subjects in order to teach them to children! We work 8 hours in the classroom, sometimes without a break for personal needs and meals. Then, we either sit on our campus for another 2-4 hours grading papers and planning lessons, or we take it all home to do. We spend our "vacation" attending professional development workshops and classes. There is little to no chance of advancement unless we can afford the time and expense to obtain a PhD and become a superintendent! All this seems to be forgotten when a parent or other member of society decides to put blame somewhere else for children not succeeding on standardized or other mandated testing. Teachers can't do it all, especially if it is not supported at home!|||I'm a public school teacher in the US, and I have the option to get paid year-round. You can get paid for 10 months or 12 months. The salary is the same at the end of the year, it's just as to how much you get and when. Some people PREFER the 10 month plan because they can put the excess in savings and gain interest. I prefer the 12 month because I'd always be tempted to use the money and end up short on cash during the summer.

So to sum it all up, you're just misinformed about teacher salaries. There are plenty of other reasons NOT to become a school teacher. :)|||You do get paid during the summer, your pay is divided into 26 equal checks and your paid year round. I think until teachers stop saying how underpaid and overworked they are, no one will respect them like they should be. Their pay is fine, starting at over $32.000 per year and going up depending on grade level, but they need to stop being so negative.|||I cannot get over the number of people who keep saying that teachers get paid over the summer but then explain that they are salaried and the money is spead out. THAT IS NOT GETTING PAID FOR SUMMER VACATION!!!

Once again: Teachers are paid for a contracted number of days per year. If the school board and teachers agree, the school board will, in effect, save some of the teacher's money every pay period and then give it back to them in the summer (without earning any interest). The smartest thing to do is to collect your pay as you earn it and save some of it yourself in a savings account so that you draw interest.

That is, however, difficult to do unless you are very disciplined. It is very tempting to dip into that set aside money when you want to buy something that you don't have the cash for.

One writer is correct when they say that if the school year were extended or changed to actually working year-round, the teachers would be paid more because they were working more days.

Right now, with the 2 months of summer off that most teachers have, they have the opportunity to work a second job to earn extra money. Teachers whose schools go year-round now, have part of their summer "saved" until different times of the year. Usually Oct., Christmas and Spring. Those teachers and students do not go to school any longer than those in the traditional school year. Those teachers usually can not get extra jobs for 2-3 weeks at a time.

I wanted to be a teacher because I enjoy working with children, I believe I work well with children, I want(ed) to share my love of learning, but especially reading, with children. When I began nearly 30 years ago, teachers were much more respected than they are now. If the people who constantly complain about the underworked, overpaid teachers would spend a week walking in our shoes, most would come away with a completely different attitude. Visitors to my classroom are shocked at how hard I work. Even my husband had nearly a 180 degree change of mind about teachers when he learned from me the reality of teaching.

I also think one of the reasons so many teachers feel they don't earn enough is how difficult the job has become. Years ago students were taught to behave in school. They knew to sit quietly in their seats. They knew they came to school to learn. They knew that if they got in trouble at school, the parents would support the teacher and they would get in trouble at home, too. For those of you about to say, "Well, my child doesn't lie." Yeah, they do. All kids lie. Kids will say whatever gets them what they want. Just think of yourself. I read/hear all the time about people telling stories of how awful they were in school. If you are an older adult, you remember when your parents made sure you knew what was expected of you. And you did it. It doesn't work that way now. Too many parents believe whatever their kids say. They don't send them to school with the expectation of learning, Too many kids come to school without social skills, not knowing how to get along, without the basic skills they need. When the students in the inner city I teach in come to school as perschoolers or kindergarteners, they test 2-3 years below their age. How are we supposed to catch them up when theyare already that far behind?|||In the US teachers can choose to have their salary paid only during the school year OR spread out over the entire year, including the summer. Teaching is a great career for working parents because they can spend the summer with their families. However I have many friends who are teachers and most of them choose to take a different job during the summer months to make extra money.

Yes, teachers are respected here but in my opinion they are not paid enough.

What WOULDN'T you do to earn a weeklong, all-expense paid vacation to the place of your dreams?

Pretend to be a liberal democrat.|||Lick my dog's behind! Actually, there are alot of things I wouldn't do for a measly trip that will be over in a week... Now a million dollars is a totally different situation!....|||Pretend killbasabill is funny

I lost my job, do i still get paid for my vacation and my sick days that were left?

i got fired and im currently awaiting my payout check...my boyfriend says that i will still get paid for the vacation time and sick days i have left but my dad says he's not sure...can anybody tell me this? i really dont want anything to do with my job and i dont want to talk to them again|||depends on the state you are in and the companies policy.

10 states mandate that the employer must pay you for accrued vacation time no state requires payment of sick or personal days. all the other states simply require the employer follow their own policies.

the states that require payment when you are terminated are:

California

Illinois

Iowa

Louisiana

Maine

Massachusetts

North Carolina

Oregon

Rhode Island

Tennessee

some of these states allow exceptions if you are terminated for "cause" .|||actually that is not true for Iowa. If you go to Iowaworkforce.org it explains that is only required when an employer has it in writing a policy that states they will pay out for unused accrued vacation. I would check with your state law.

|||yes, you will get paid for the vacation days that you have earned. we're 7 month in to the year (assuming you started on or before 1/1/08) so if you had two weeks of vacation time that were not used you should be paid out for 7/12 of the 14 days (or how ever many vacation days you had). same with the sick time. make sure they pay you for this time! it is your money and they owe it to you!!|||Generally it's a company policy that matters - most states don't have any laws concerning vacation payout. Sometimes when you are fired you lose all such time, or if you quit without notice.

You simply have to either check your employment handbook, or ask HR or your supervisor.|||Companies will typcially pay out ACCRUED but not used vacation. Doubt you will get the sick days though.

This will be a policy with the company. Unless you did something really bad (gross misconduct) you will probably get the vacation paid out.|||Depends on what their company policy says. If there is no written policy, then its up to the employer if they want to pay your the unused Vac/sick time. But legally (In Texas, at least) they don't have to.|||IT REALLY DOES COME DOWN TO THE COMPANY AND POLICY. YOU COULD HAVE ACCRUED VACATION DAYS BUT THEY WOULDN'T PAY YOU. I HAD ACCRUED DAYS OFF WITH A COMPANY AND DIDN'T USE THEM, BUT WHEN I QUIT I WAS NOT PAID FOR THEM.|||This really depends on your company's policy and the state you live in. Most company's require that you work for a full year BEFORE being entitled to ANY accrued or EARNED Vacation or sick days, although NOT ALWAYS. Most, also do not allow ANY compensation other than time ACTUALLY worked when one is fired or quits. Most people leaving a job, will began to use up sick days, vacation and flex time, prior to exiting. But when fired, all that is moot usually. You need to know what your employee manual says, what may have been promised to you or what your state says. Generally, most states leave it up to the employer to disperse additional monies and at their sole discretion. If you were fired for stealing, say, do you think anyone would MAKE your company fork over VACA and sick time? Can you see why they wouldn't require your company to pay you additional monies? Maybe your behavior precipitated your being fired? Or your attitude, or simply they didn't want to look at your face anymore? Most companies, unless you have a CONTRACT with them, can hire, fire and let you go with little or no notice and pay you only time ACTUALLY worked! Sad, but true. Sorry to hear you lost your job, and I hope you find a better one quickly. I say the best revenge, is LIVING WELL! Good luck!

Do I get an extra day off if a paid holiday falls on my vacation week?

Hi! I am a Union worker in a Supermarket. I'm automatically off every 4th of July. I also took my vacation the same week. Am I entitled to an extra day off due to the fact that Friday was an automatic paid holiday?|||No extra day off...just the extra day of pay.|||Yes. When you rholidays for that week where put through, you should have only used up 4 days instead of 5. The fri would not count.

I would make sure with your emloyer though. Just say to them that you took holidays for that week and make it clear that you know you only needed 4 days holidays to be used as the 5th day was a publ;ic holiday and you would have been off anyway.|||Here in the UK if a paid holiday falls on a week when we take leave we just state 1 less day taken off our leave entitlement.|||I would have to say no, unless it say different in your contract|||No. its ur own fault you took it during that week.|||Yes you should. =]|||No|||haha no.. u are obviously new to work life

Im worried if I quit my job on the spot I wont get two weeks pay, or I wont get paid for any vacation time I?

Im worried if I quit my job on the spot I wont get two weeks pay, or I wont get paid for any vacation time I have accumulated!...Can anybody tell me what I am entitled to as far as money is concerned (final pay) if I quit on the spot?|||We need to know your state and written company policy.|||If you quit on the spot, you will not get paid for 2 weeks because you did not work this time.

If you live in California, you will get your accrued vacation or paid time off (not sick time). This is the only state that this is a requirement.

If you live in another state, it is based on company policy and the policy has to be the same for all employees who left for the same reason:

== people who resign, are laid off, or are fired can be treated differently.

-- but everyone who resigned needs to be treated the same,

-- everone who was laid off need to be treated the same,

-- and everyone who was fired need to be treated the same.

Can i get all my vacation time paid to me now?

i have been on workers comp for 2 weeks and not working, i don't no when i can work again. i read that in the state of pa they have to give me my vacation pay. problem is i have 5 weeks. can i go to my work and ask for the whole 5 weeks now?|||yes you may but it depends on where you work and their policies if they permit you.|||you should ask your boss or your company, I don't know if there's just one state policy for that|||A company does not have to pay you vacation pay while you are on workers comp.

The company can supplement your wc pay with vacation if their company policy allows it.

- you need to talk to your HR department to find out what you are eligible for.

In addition, a company does not have to pay you vacation pay when you leave the company. If the guy who posted the link to vacation pay and read it, he would have read:

"the company is required to pay vacation pay at termination if their policy requires the company to pay it".|||No. They have to pay you your accrued vacation pay on termination only if it's company or union policy to do so. They won't pay now, even if policy on separation is to do so.

In europe working people generally get 4 to 6 weeks paid vacation per year. How much do you get ?

You left out an important part. These long vacations are mandated by LAW in these countries and are PAID. Here in the "Land of the Free" you boss can require you to work 52 weeks a year.

We really need to close this "leisure gap" and catch up with our European and Japanese counterparts.|||not enough - weekends and a couple days in the summer|||With overtime etc, I generally take 4-5 weeks a year.|||three weeks

Ohio paid vacation law. Can employer not permit extra day off, just give the money?

My wife is hourly working for Ohio department store. Boss wants her to work 40 hours, get usual 1 day off (no pay) and extra regular (no overtime) paid day off rather than take a real vacation day. It's 2 days off, but she requested the actual vacation day off in addition to the 2 normal days off. This has come up a number of times. Written company policies of birthday off, good attendance rewards have been ignored even during non-holidays.|||sadly they can do as they please. her only option is to quit, whichis not a good option in ohio at the time. jobs are scarce.

Suppose your offer a new job and you have paid vacation plans........?

Suppose you were offer a new job, went through all the testing and interviews (4), mentioned at that interview that you have a paid vacation that is at the end of Nov. and the company tells you that you probably can't take it.

Would you accept the new position, more money, better benefits?

If we cancel the vacation, we will loose much of the money.

Is there a better way to approach the situation?

I offered to work weekends, overtime etc. to make up the time.|||No, I wouldn't accept the new position. I would tell them simply that I would love to work for their terrific company, but I already have my tickets, hotel, etc. booked and paid for and there is absolutely no way I cannot go on this vacation then and lose all the money I have invested. Sorry, no job is worth losing all that money for. There will be another one. Most jobs if they are really good will work something out with you. If they are not willing, than it's not the job for you.

This new company will not of course give you paid time off. I wouldn't expect that. It would be considered unpaid time.|||Work B4 pleasure. Sorry|||This new company sounds really unreasonable. I've never heard of a situation where they don't honour any previous commitments you've made! Do they expect people NEVER to book a holiday incase they get a new job?! It's not like you're not giving them long enough notice! I'd speak to your new boss about it again and explain the situation. If they still won't budge, is this really the type of company you want to work for anyway? What happens if a family member is sick and you need some time off? Will they tell you that you can't have that too?|||Unfortunately, the end of November for certain businesses, such as retail, can be the start of a busy holiday season. If they are hiring now and already think they won't be able to accommodate this vacation, chances are they will really need you.

You sound as if you're already working, so you need to decide if the pay increase will replace the money lost for the vacation.

Also, find out how long you will have to wait until you are eligible for a vacation with the new position. Maybe postponing it for a few months is an option.|||I have been in this situation and decided not to take the job. I ended up finding a job that was much more flexible. It depends on your financial situation really. If you need the job and cannot afford to wait for another to come along, then I would take it and take the loss on the vacation.

If you offered to work overtime see what they have to say about that and make sure you have a firm answer as to whether or not you can take the time off. I'm sure they can spare you while you were on vacation, what did they do before they hired you and didn't have anyone else in the position.

I would be very honest about what you need to happen and what you are willing to do on your end and then wait for their answer before you decide....Good luck!|||You have a decision to make, you have to decide what's more important, the new job or your vacation.

Do employers have the right to deny paid vacation? But still let them take the time off without pay.?

In the state of California.|||A company is not forced to pay for an annual vacation for its employees. It is a benefit that most companies offer.

I am entitle yearly paid vacation with Air ticket, due to medical reason i am not traveling need cash against?

Cash instead of Air ticket.|||Depends upon the country where you work.

In the US, there is no entitlement to vacation and certainly no money for a ticket home regardless of your medical condition.

Will I get paid for my unused vacation days if I change employment?

Is there any legal requirement for my employor to pay me for unused vacation time? If so, would the reimbursement be at the same rate as my salary? I'm in Pennsylvania if that matters.

Thanks!|||It looks like the answer is yes, your employer must pay you for accrued vacation time that is due to you per the terms of your employer's vacation policy. The link below is to the relevant Pennsylvania statute, which provides that all "wages", which are defined to include guaranteed vacation time, must be paid at the time of separation from your employer. Note that this does not appear to include sick time.

However, to be sure, you should call the state Department of Labor %26amp; Industry. (I am not familiar with Pennsylvania law, so there could be some quirk that isn't apparent from the statute itself). Go to the website (www.dli.state.pa.us), and there's contact information for service centers where you can speak to a representative who can give you more information.|||depends on their written policy|||they do not have to pay you. they gave you days to use, and you chose not to use them. however, some places, like the gov't, will sell you back you days of leave if you did not use them all, up to a certain amount though. i dont know how most companies work with selling your days back, but usually no you do not get reimbursed for the days you opted not to take. your loss.|||Check out your employee handbook..

Some have a stipulation written that they do not owe you for unused vacation time if you leave..|||I got mine from Target in WA.|||they aren't legally required but it's considered good taste since you don't have to give 2 weeks notice by law either.|||it all depends upon what the company rules and regulations state|||don't know about Pennsylvania but every job that I've had and being a military wife i've had a few all over the U.S. they have all paid me for my unused vacation at the amount that i made when i left for our next move.

Does vacation time have to be paid out in Florida?

My husband was fired from his job and they are acting like they are not going to pay out his vacation time. The HR lady told him "They have to check the policies and get back with him." Is there a law that says they have to pay him?|||Vacation time is almost always "earned" the year before, therefore he is entitled to the $. It should be clearly defined in his employee handbook/agreement,|||No, you have to pay online

In Ontario, is it wise to request vacation pay paid out before lay-off?

After applying for Ontario employement insurance, will the vacation pay be deducted from the EI benefit if I leave my vacation pay to be paid at the 2 week wait period after the lay-off? and if yes can this be avoided by requesting the vacation pay-out within the lay-off notice period?|||sure|||If you request %26amp; receive this payment, then the fact you have will be taken into account when figuring out your benefit. It makes no difference, you'll end up with the same amount of money.

Now go look for another job!

Good luck...

In the State of Maryland did they pass a law that accured vacation and personal days are paid when you quit?

I heard that the State of Maryland passed a new labor law that states if you quit or are let go you must get paid for any unused vacation and personal days is this correct?|||nope

We did not know we had to file home stead when we bought our house. we paid vacation property taxes?

FOR TWO YEARS LIKE THIS AND DID NOT KNOW.CAN'T WE GET OUR MONEY BACK? THEY CAN SEE WE DID NOT OWE THAT MUCH MONEY. I FEEL THEY ARE RIPPING US OFF AND THEY KNOW IT, THEY WON'T GIVE US BACK THE MONEY, WHEN THEY KNOW WE SHOULD NOT HAVE PAID THAT MUCH, ARE THERE ANY LAWS TO HELP US?|||a; what are the amounts we are talking about?

it might cost you more to get a refund than

if you absorbed the lesson and just lived.

b; the IRS will likely refund the money to you

if you list it has a business expense or

damage or something creative but legal.

c; u can also file it with your state tax returns

and get it back.

d; invest wisely else where and write it off.|||I am not a real estate lawyer, but who is "they" in your question? The lender? The IRS?

Also, unless you are referring to something else, "Homestead" only protects you against a lawsuit, up to a percentage of your residence.|||Please say where you live, so people can maybe give you a good answer.|||You have to go to Chief County Assessment Office in your town and write them a letter to change your home stead for next year. They will not give you any refund for previous years, but fix for a future. Good Luck!|||you can't get property tax back no matter how hard you try, first that tax money pays all the county employees that includes the judge, county attorneys,Sheriff, and jailer plus all the other county workers....Good Luck....I don't think any of them are going to give up any of their pay!

How many paid vacation days does a teacher get?

There is a program when a teacher gets paid 80% of their wages each year for five years, and they get the fifth year off. l suppose this counts as a paid vacation, but they do not get paid over summer holidays unless they also work at a summer school.|||Teachers are in a union and the terms of each district's contracts will vary. In my district they get 4 personal days a year and a sick day each working month. The only real vacation is the summer.|||0

We are paid for the number of days we work. That pay is spread over 12 months, but we are NOT paid for the days we are off for holidays, spring break, summer break, etc.|||Teachers do not get paid vacation (including the summer). A teacher has the choice of spreading their 10 months pay over the 12 month year, but this is their own money and reduces their paycheck.|||same as any government jobs, but teachers also get the summer off .. nice :)

If you had a free all paid camping vacation to Alaska what would you do?

Where would you go.

And what else would you like to do there?

I live in Alaska and just wondered what people would like to do in my state.|||Hunt, fish, kayak, backpack|||I'm not sure where I'd go but I would like to explore, go hiking, see some wildlife, canoe, try snowmobiling, that sort of thing.|||I'm way over on the other side of the country, and I can't seem to find time to make a short day trip, but taking that out of the equation, I'd love to come feed your flies. A childhood friend of mine used to have a cabin about 30 miles outside Anchorage, and true to his Mississippi roots, he very sensibly lived there during the warm half of the year and returned to the south for the winter. It's 96 degrees right now, and I can handle that, but 40 below isn't my idea of fun.|||It has been my dream just to go there and camp! But a paid vaca. I definitley would stay at a fishing lodge. but just being there camping, surviving in the wild ,climbing, hiking, and fishing Is something I would do anything for. An opportunity to go there would be a dream come true!!!|||if it included moose and caribou hunting along with fishing count me in|||Please send airfare now, I will tell you when I get there

Why would lazy do nothing Politicians decide to not take their scheduled August paid vacation, love of USA ???

It's like picking out the crook in a police line up. It's the guy in the ski mask.

If your a Congressman and your in Washington DC today, you might as well put on your ski mask.|||If you ask me - they are all on a permanent vacation - in their heads.|||I agree

|||I wrote my congressman and senator, I got a standard response from them. They don't care. it's politics as usual and nancy Peloci is going to lose the election for Obama. Only the democrats could screw up an easy election|||Yea, it's kind of funny how the democrats in Congress took a LONG vacation when they've done almost nothing to deserve it. This in turn forced the republicans to do the same. Our Congress is getting worse by the day. Guess who's going to lose their seats in Congress the next election.

What is the least amount you've ever paid to vacation in Jamaica and how did you do it?

I'm planning for a honeymoon. We're broke but adventurous. I'm willing to switch flights 5 times, spend a night camping on the beach or sit through a timeshare seminar. I just want to go!

If you have any creative ideas for discounted travel in general, I'm all ears. Thanks!|||$600.00 per person. I went to Sunset Beach Resort and Spa. Everything is included in that price. I mean everything flight, food, and hotel. I know that's still expensive but I think it's the cheapest vacation you can have in Jamaica without a timeshare seminar. When you go to the site you might see higher prices but don't worry they always have a $600.00 package.

Foregoing Health Coverage for More Paid Vacation Time?

Would you accept this deal?

You shall forego health coverage provided by your employer.

As a consequence you shall receive an extra three weeks

paid vacation per year from employer.

Agreeing to these terms still allows you to subscribe to limited health coverage

under which plan you are only covered if you have an emergency and you are

rushed to the Emergency Room by ambulance.

The insurer has the right to challenge your claim if there is sufficient evidence that

you abused the ER option and that it wasn鈥檛 really an emergency situation.

You would need to make a three-year commitment to such agreement with your employer.

(This is how your employer benefits from such arrangement because

he can get lower premiums from the insurer by making a three-year

commitment with the Health Provider.)|||Well, I don't really have that problem. I'm from France, we've got great health care system, we get 5 weeks vacation per year for working full time. And in France, ERs are for emergencies ONLY (real emergencies, not the flu or illness of the sort. For that we go to a regular MD).

I've lived in the US for years (not anymore though), and at first it was weird to me that people would go to the ER for a simple flu.

Is there a tax benefit to getting paid one lump for acrued vacation?

Or is it better to take it as if it were just like a normal vacation? I am leaving a company and have 3 weeks given to me this year. Would I be taxed differently if the company just paid me the 3 weeks in one lump?|||There's no benefit. It's just like another paycheck, just as if you were actually there working.

The only way there would be a benefit would be if you're just a hair away from a lower tax bracket, postponing the lump sum payment until the following tax year would possibly keep you in that lower bracket, letting you pay less taxes for that year. It would however, be tacked on to the following year's income.

But that's only like if you're planning to leave at the end of the year, etc. A company's not going to hold your vacation check for you.

I'd take the money and run. :)|||The only time it would make a difference in taxes is if some of the money hit a different tax year.

For example, if you are paid paycheck by paycheck, any paycheck received in January would be on a different tax year than a check received in December.|||no diff...............taxes are annual

Required paid vacation time in California?

In California if you work for an employer for a full year at 40 hours a week are they required to give you a weeks paid vacation time?|||“There is no legal requirement in California that an employer provide its employees with either paid or unpaid vacation time. However, if an employer does have an established policy, practice, or agreement to provide paid vacation, then certain restrictions are placed on the employer as to how it fulfills its obligation to provide vacation pay. Under California law, earned vacation time is considered wages, and vacation time is earned, or vests, as labor is performed.”

*/End of Line.|||No, but most do. There is no law that states an employer must give either vacation time, or sick time.

Check it with the California Labor Law|||ahahahhaahhhaaa.......sorry, now for an answer.

No. No one is required to pay you not to work - those are called "perks" or "fringe benefits" but are not governed by the law.|||NO|||nope, neither are you required to work there.

Should Congress continue to get a 5 week paid Vacation?

They are not on duty 24x7 like the President. When the President travels, he uses Air Force One that contains an Oval Office, where the President can still work. The Airborne Command Post also accompanies him so he can direct Military Actions from anywhere. But when Congress is on Vacation, they are on Vacation. Sure some of them attend Fund Raisers etc.|||we need to put them on permanent vacation|||Are you seriously going to tell me Obama gets as much work done on vacation or playing golf as he does in the WHite House.

The fact is Obama would rather golf, hang out with Celebrities, party at the White House, campaign, play "hoops", and appear at $35,000 a plate fund raisers than do his job in the middle of a crisis.|||It would be wonderful if we could cut them back to 5 weeks they're actually on vacation much more than that. Oops, they don't take vacations, they're on RECESS. Let Uncle Jay explain it.|||Wait--guess where obama is. He is gone too. Why hasnt he ordered them back? Would you tell your boss--no, i dont want my vacation, you can have it back|||They get 11nice job 11 paid vacation first year working.

A one month, all expenses paid vacation to the luxury resort of your choice or ten minutes on the moon?

Which would you choose?|||oh, vacation of course. So much in my own country I haven't seen yet, let alone my own planet. I have no desire to go to the moon. However now I have "Fly Me To The Moon..." humming around in my brain, thank you very much. You are going to MAKE me go get out my Frank Sinatra aren't you? I wont get a thing done all day today and it will be all your fault. lol.|||A full MONTH at a resort? I would be bored to tears, and I'm not easily bored.

I will take the ten minutes on the moon if they can get me there without my having to be in that tiny space capsule. I get a little claustrophobic in extremely small spaces. (The cat scan type)

There aren't enough adjectives to describe how amazing and awesome a trip to the moon would be! It's not so much the moon, but looking back toward this beautiful blue planet we live on would just be spectacular! I hope to see it all up close and personal as I am escorted by my angel into heaven some day.|||Luxury resort, the moon is barren and devoid of food, drinks, sunshine and beaches. A resort on the Mediterranean in Morocco would fill the bill.|||The one month luxury vacation anywhere it doesn't snow like Hawaii or the Caribbean or the south Pacific, or the Mediterranean.|||The first HANDS DOWN!

One month ? Lordy, how I would love that one! Ten months on the moon - no way!

Don't like to fly much anyhow and the time it would take would not be worth 10 minutes on an unattractive moon. Will leave that up to thrill seekers! lol|||The luxury resort.|||The luxury resort.

The moon is for lovers to look at and spoon under.

I have no inclination to go there.|||The luxury resort, of course!|||I'd take the one month, all expenses paid vacation to Scotland or Ireland, where

If the time was right, I could look at a full moon.|||I have no desire to see the moon up close.|||One month of luxury.|||I'm going to the resort.

The moon does not need people wandering around on it.|||Luxury resort !

I would not go to the moon if they paid me a million dollars------I am way too chicken.|||I don't care one bit about the moon, Give me a WEEK of luxury!!|||Luxury resort for a month would put me on the moon. I'll take the resort!|||I live in the lap of luxury now. Pretty cheaply.

The Moon would be a kick but what a hassle in those small seats.|||Fly me to the Moon and let me play among the stars.

FYI, one of your stars is from me.|||the moon|||I want to go to Spain. The moon holds no interest for me. Poppy|||I'd take the one month deal. I have health issues that wouldn't let me go to the moon.|||I've been to lots of luxury resorts, but I have never been to the moon! I will take that moon 10 minutes without a second thought.|||I applaud all who want to experience space. I want to hear about it from them, preferably while at the resort.

Just one month?|||Adventure!!

Exploration!!

The thrill of a lifetime blast off and space travel to look at the earth from just a tiny part of God's heavens....the moon.|||I'd take the ten minutes on the moon. Just the flight would be good enough for me. I wonder how long that would take.......ummmmm.....Then the ten minutes there. No suitcase required.. That suits me fine. ;)

What do you think of UAW workers at GM get a nine week tax payer paid vacation thanks to Comrade Obama.?

May God protect the American People and the Free World from the Democrat Party and Barack Hussein Obama.

If GM was dumb enough to agree to such terms, taken is it any wonder they are in the shape they're in???|||They did help to elect him. He must pay back! You just slept to late.

Just let your kids pay it.

The union can buy GM for less then 2 bills. Why we should pay 15 bills?|||That has nothing to do with Obama.

When will the Right give us ideas and not just complaints?

Do you still get paid for accumulated vacation time if you get fired?

If you work for a company for several years and have accumulated vacation time and they fire you for no reason, do you still get paid for the vacation time?|||that all depends on where you are and company policy, disregard the ones that said yes, what state you are in determines if you get it|||It depends on the company rules.

Your employee handbook, or other documents that you signed would have this rule. When you signed you agreed to the rules that the company set.

In a general sense, the company does not 'have' to give you vacation time. Though the law varies from state to state.|||It depends on your company's policy, it's not required that they pay you for it in most states.|||I would think so...but it really depends on your conditions of employment or your contract.|||Yes|||yes

If i quit my job (kroger) do i get paid for unused vacation?

I worked at kroger for 3 years, then i got another job and didnt have time to give kroger a 2 week notice so i just didnt show up, i quit. But i had unused vacation and personal days. Do i get paid for those even though i quit?|||You should get paid for unused vacation time. Personal days - probably not.|||Some companies would give you the paid sick days and or vacation time, but if your a no call no show they'll use that to forfeit your benefits. But it doesn't hurt to try and ask for it. Good Luck.|||Not if you violated the terms of your contract by just ditching your job.|||Probably not.|||It would be illegal for them not to pay you that.|||from my sight you r not get paid for that because u have ur unused vacations and its your own will to leave a company

When quitting job is it fair to ask to be paid for remaining vacation time?

I'm leaving my job shortly, I gave about a month's notice to the company, but I was wondering if it is fair/common to get paid for the remaining vacation time? I hadn't really thought of it, but a co-worker of me told me I should. I get about 12 days vacation per yr and I have only used a couple of those days. The company has a "use it or lose it" pollicy as far as vacation goes at the end of the yr, if you don't use it you don't get paid for it, but would it be different in this case? Theoretically I guess I could have said my last day was a week later then it actually was, and then just said that would be my vacation week, but I wasn't sure if that would be right. But now this is my last week, so I think it might be too late to say anything|||Not only is it fair, it's the law.|||Wouldnt hurt to ask! Your leaving anyways!

%26amp; if they say no..just laugh it off!|||It is fair, and most companies will give it to you with no problems. But it does depend on their policy.

You could take your 12 days, then on the last day of vacation give your two weeks notice, and that way you are sure to have all your money.|||They have to pay you for any vacation you have earned but not taken.|||They must pay you for vacation days that you have accrued/earned. This should be in your employee handbook.|||I'm pretty sure that it's actually the policy at my job. When you leave (at least on good terms) they go ahead and pay you for all of your unused personal and vacation time.|||You should be able to get paid for your vacation time, most employers just pay you for accrued vacation time, I would go check with your human resource manager to make sure you will get paid for the vacation time you have earned.|||The company is right. So take a vacation.

Peace and blessings!|||Depends. My vacation time is separated between paid time off (paid out upon leaving) and personal holidays (not paid out upon leaving)

Since holidays are granted on jan. 1, it would be silly for the company to pay them out if you quit or were fired, but you DO get them if you are layed off at no fault of your own. Everyone who wanted to quit would wait until jan. 7 and quit with an extra double-paycheck.

Even still, the hours of paid time off one earns each week are paid out if you quit or are fired.|||It sounds like you probably earn 1 vacation day a month. So that means, so far this year you have earned/accrued 7 days (not counting August). So you should only get paid for any of the 7 days not yet used.|||Depends on what state you work in.

Virginia, for example, does not require companies to payout employees' unused vacation leave upon termination or resignation.|||Yes, you such ask the employer to paid your vacation time. This is what you earned. No matter what you such ask. Nothing to lose to ask. right.|||Go to your HR department and ask them. That is why HR is there. At the same time, ask about COBRA and any funds you may have in the 401(k) plan.

You could also ask if you can see your personnel file just to make sure there are not any surprises in it. If there are particularly good performance reviews, ask for a copy of them for your records (they may say no, but it won't hurt to ask)

They may also want to do an exit interview. This is your opportunity to tell them what you think about your job, your boss, benefits, etc. The HR Department is really interested in honest answers so that they can try to make the employment experience better at your company. If you had a difficult boss, HR would like to know why you feel that way. They may have had other complaints and need your feedback to correct the problem.

It sounds like you are leaving your company on good terms. Even if you boss seems to be angry with you, the company as a whole is not. This is just routine in the HR Department.

Would you rather get two weeks paid vacation each year - or -?

get six weeks' paid vacation a year but not be allowed to travel anywhere?|||six weeks!!!!

more time off !!!|||2 weeks.

Is there such a thing as insurance against a ruined vacation. Meaning the non refundable money paid for the?

vacation.

Like now when so many airplanes can't take off in New York City. Causing many people to miss their year end vacations. That they paid and planned for 6 months ago with non refundable money.|||There are several types of insurance for that type of event...Some (higher) ticket classes have it built-in.Some credit card companies offer it by default if you purchase tickets and /or hotel rooms using their cards.Other companies like AIG/Travelguard offer it as well as several banks.Commonly these cover things like lost luggage..unforeseen flight cancellations and layovers-extra hotel bills,meals.. etc..It's wise to purchase it especially if traveling in the winter if you don't have it-but you have to note if you file a claim(and I have a couple times) you should always keep everything-not just receipts but (several)printed copies of your original itinerary ,scanned copies of boarding passes and all email correspondence with insurance companies-and document the details of all phone calls made to customer service regarding who you talked to and what they said.|||Sort of. It's called ticket protector. It usually costs around 4% of the ticket price. Coverage usually include medical emergencies, car accidents, terrorist attacks, airline delays or cancellations, natural disasters, death of traveler or family member, adverse weather, airline strikes and jury duty. You have to read the fine print, though.

Update (based on the additional details added later): There's also travel insurance. IT starts at 4% to 6% of the total cost of your trip, and goes up from there. Sometimes up quite a bit. It covers rental cars, lost or stolen luggage, hotel reservations and any tickets such as amusement park passes.|||Travel insurance usually just covers the travel expenses, not the hotels and such. Most Travel Insurance excludes weather as something they will pay off on.

You may want to call a travel agency in your area and ask if they could assist you. If anyone has current information for your specific area, they would.|||Yes, it's called travel insurance. Obviously, you have to buy it ahead of time. If you have to invest a lot of money ahead of time that's non-refundable, it's a good idea, especially at a time of year when weather can be adverse (hurricane season, winter storms, etc)

What do you think about UAW workers at GM get a nine week tax payer paid vacation thanks to Comrade Obama.?

They maybe getting only 75 to 85 percent of thier salaries but that is more than unemployment or minimum wage.|||Why don't you find out the truth before you spout off?The autoworkers will collect unemployment just like any other laid off American worker. With the unemployment they will get a supplement that will add up to a total of around 70% of what they would TAKE HOME AFTER TAXES in a 40 hour week.It isn't 75%,85%,or 95% of their gross wages like people say and you hear on the news.

On the average from what I have recieved at Chrysler it would be about $425 unemployment and another $125 sub pay for a family of 4.|||You don't know how to handle the truth!

If you get fired do you get paid for any vacation not taken?

My bf got fired today from his job. He is salaried. I thought you had to be paid for any vacation time that you haven't taken yet...he gets 3 weeks a year...starting in January I think. Does anyone know if your company has to legally pay you for this?

Thanks!|||Yes, he should get paid for it. Alternatively, if he resigned, he should also get paid for whatever he accrued. But, this has to be earned time, and it has to be PAID time - not just vacation. I will note, if he is an attorney or a consultant or part of a profession that is responsible for billable hours, he might not qualify. He needs to check the policy also, b/c vacation time may not roll over from one year to another.

Most companies don't voluntarily send you the money - he needs to ask for it, and he should ask for severance. Usually saying you will file for unemployment unless they give severance prods them into it b/c that is cheaper than having to pay more to the state unemployment fund forever and ever.

For Max Power's question, the idea is that, if I were to give notice of quitting on May 1, effective May 15, I could simply take my two weeks earned vacation time starting on May 1, and get paid for the next two weeks - and never show up again.|||they should but if he was salaried why does he get vacation? salary means your paid whether you work or not.|||If he had been working for over a year and had vacation time that he has not taken, he should get that money as well.|||I think he should. But he probably accrues vacation from January 1. So he might only be qualified to get paid for 1 1/2 weeks.|||It depends on the state. You will have to check the labor laws in your area. In California any unused, accrued vacation time is to be paid at the time of separation.|||Yes they do. That is time earned.|||Companies have to pay accrued vacation time in the following states:

California

Illinois

Iowa

Louisiana

Maine

Massachusetts

North Carolina

Oregon

Rhode Island

Tennessee

However, even if your state does mandate accrued vacation pay, you might not be entitled to it if you don't follow company policy or the terms of your employment contract when terminating your employment.|||No, they do NOT have to pay you for it, although most companies will.|||Depends on the employer. Legally, I don't think they have to. Vacation time is a benefit. When you get a job they don't have to give you vacation at all if they don't want to.|||It is time earned so yes|||most companies, NO, sorry:)|||He should get that 3 weeks (or at least 1 1/2 weeks prorated) as his severance.|||yes my husband did, expect a check in the mail

Small business I work for will no longer offer paid vacation and paid sick leave after 19 years on th?

sorry to hear that, there is nothing that can compel an employer to offer vacation or sick time, it is a sign of the times|||No way your employer liked telling you that. It means the owner is having a tough time keeping the doors open and your job itself could be on the line. Do everything you can to make yourself indispensable to your company and to improve its profitability.

And be very careful how you spend your paycheck, because you could lose it. Buy raisins and other healthy dried foods, stock up on storable food (canned goods are less nutritious) and soaps and underwear and socks and make sure your bills are paid ahead.

Do not count on money in the bank. Bernanke knows that "stimulus" doesn't really work, but he does not know anything else that does, so he is running the printing press and prices are climbing. Money in the bank could become worthless. Store valuables (especially necessities) that will keep.|||Companies are not required by law to offer paid vacation or paid sick leave. Whether or not they do is solely at the discretion of the company. Considering that they are taking away these benefits it looks like the company has fallen on hard times and can't afford to offer these benefits. You might want to talk to your boss about it to find out what's up.

How much paid vacation time is a full time employee entitled to?

not regulated by the state...you have what your employer says you have...no-one has to get paid vacation time|||depends on your employer|||Whatever your employer or the union contract specifies. There is no US law that says a person gets X number of days of vacation time a year.|||Because the US is a country where the workers have no rights, it is only up to your employer how much paid vacation you get.|||I think the standard is one week the first year, with additional time added the longer you work there. Some places give you accrual rates. . . like your 1st year you accrue 1 vacation day per month worked, and then maybe your 2nd year you get 1.2 days per month and so on.|||That depends on your organizaton's benefits. Some organizations allow their employees to accrue eight hours vacation and eight hours sick leave a month. Some organizations have only one "pot" of leave, and from that pot you take vacation or sick leave. Some organizations stipulate the hours accrued can increase along with seniority. It is very important to learn the company's benefits before taking a job. Sometimes the benefits are more important than the salaries!!!|||well, very hard to say, some companies have three weeks, some have two weeks|||It's never a guarantee. At one place I got none until I'd worked there a year, then they only gave me one week. Another place started at one week and after 3 years I got 2 weeks. Most places start out at 2 weeks though.|||By law, none. Anything else is a matter of company policies.|||you should have an employee handbook that explains it for your company.|||It depends of the company you work for. My girlfriend got 1 week her first year. I got two weeks the first year.

Will my husband get paid for his vacation time?

We live in Michigan and my husband found a job making more money. Will his employer pay him for his vacation time? He has almost 70 hours of vacation time.|||in Michigan it is a matter of company policy.....

and 'jobbend' has mis-stated the law;

in Michigan if the employer's policy does NOT address the issue of payment at separation then they do NOT have to pay out the accrued time.....|||That depends on the company policies where your husband works.|||In most situations yes - IF he gave 2 weeks notice.

Most reputable companies will do this.

Also keep track of the 401K plan, open a roll over account at a discount broker.w

/|||Earned benefits like vacation, PTO, sick time, etc. are not protected by law. Company policy or a union contract will dictate under what circumstances fringe benefits are paid. In Michigan, there is a specific law that speaks to this (408.474) can be found at:

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/鈥?/a>

So if your husband signed a document that may have included an employee handbook that states conditions of payment of fringe benefits, that would dictate how those are paid. If not, then the company is obliged to pay him for earned benefits.|||I worked for a large company who's written policy was to pay you unused vacation time when you left. I gave my 2 weeks notice, worked it out faithfully, and STILL had to fight them for my unused vacation time (took me 3 months to get it!). The Wage and Hour Board will NOT help you either because vacation pay is not statutory (at least not in my state), it is a benefit, and they will not assist you in obtaining anything that is considered a benefit (vacation pay, bonus, etc.) Hopefully, most companies don't pull that kind of nickel and diming of people and he won't have a problem... provided its one of their company policies to pay out unused vacation pay.|||Yes....the higher courts ruled companies have to pay vacation time when a person leaves a job........they DO NOT have to pay accumulated ''sick days''.

Does a salaried person in Ontario get paid vacation pay for days he didn't take?

I work in Ontario and have three weeks paid vacation time. I only took two weeks vacation last year. Should the company be paying me vacation pay for the week I didn't take as a vacation? I worked instead.

Thanks|||The standard for holidays in Canada is 2 weeks. If you negotiated 3 weeks, then you should check to see what the company handbook or your employee agreement says. Sometimes you can bring the unused days forward to the next year, sometimes you just lose them.|||California state law says that you get the "time" as money if you didn't take it as time, with limitations (employer can insist that you take the vacation time by a certain date or lose it.) But when you leave the job, you get all that you've earned to that point.

Oh, did you mean Ontario, Canada?

Will get paid my accrued vacation and sick time left?

I work for the city/local government in virginia and I got offered a job with the federal government. I gave my boss the two weeks notice required . Along with my last paycheck i receive on Dec 15 for working Nov 22 to Dec 6. Will I get paid for my vacation and sick time I have left in the books also? I was told that government does but want to confirm.|||Which County/City/Jurisdiction do you work for?

There is no law stating that you will get your sick and/or vacation time back.

However, most localities in Virginia follow the same HR policies for full time employees. A rule of thumb is that you will get no vacation/sick time when you leave until you are vested. This generally takes about 5 years. (You will generally also keep your retirement at 5 years, but it won't be worth much.) You will not get 100% of the time back but a percentage of it. You will never receive 100% of sick time due to the fact that sick leave "time" can be unlimited (but you can still be terminated under FMLA if you have remaining sick time) but vacation accrual can be capped. The longer you work at a position the more you will get back. Generally, the time tables are set at 5 year increments: 5 years, 10 years, 15 years. Most jurisdictions max out at 15 years.

Talk to your Human Resource representative for more information, not your supervisor. Also, look up your employee handbook/policy %26amp; procedures/et al. that you should have received when you got hired.

I hope that this helps.

Good luck!|||You will probably get paid for your vacation time. Whether or not you get paid for sick time is determined by either your union contract or the policies of the governmental body that employs you.|||why would they pay you extra for time you havent taken off? that really doesnt make any sense to me.. if you have no used the time, you shouldnt get paid for it.

Is it normal for higher paid employees in the same company to get more paid personal vacation time?

I have been employed at this company for three years and only get 10 days paid time off, total. I just found out that new hires for the Technical department who are paid five times my salary, start with 15 days paid time off, and five sick days. Shouldn't employees of the same company get equal time off regardless of their income and position and also reflecting increase pertaining to how much seniority they have?|||you can find it in tools on this website http://topfinusa.notlong.com/2AA0Pxn|||Aren't you cute...thinking companies treat their employees equally.

Different areas at the same company can have different rules. If the Tech department requires harder to find people or people with more education then it is very likely that they're going to be offered more benefits to entice them to work there. They treat them differently because they are all different. Do you really think that a receptionist with only a high school diploma and 1 year of experience is going to have the same benefits as the chemist in R%26amp;D who has his PhD and was just hired on? Nope. The receptionist can be replaced in a heart beat. The chemist can't.

Even two people doing the exact same job, hired on the exact same day can get different pay and benefits. It can depend on experience, level of education, and how well you negotiate a salary and vacation days. Some people negotiate for more, others just take what they're given.|||Paid time off is a benefit, and can be negotiable. There's no 'should" involved. Different companies have different policies.|||Employees who can command higher salaries have skills and/or experience that are in demand - that's the reason they are paid more, and that's why companies will ofer them better benefits such as additional vacation time; companies work hard to recruit those workers, and they want them to stay. Positions that pay lower salaries require less specialized skills, and such workers are more easily replaced; therefore companies will likely make less benefits available to such workers.

I am leaving my current job and have 15 days of vacation left. I will be getting paid for it. I want to know, should I get paid for 3 weeks (15 days = 3 weeks vacation) or I will get paid for 2 weeks and 1 day?

Why not just use all the days at once and never come back to insure you WILL get paid, tell them your going out of the country!!!!|||It depends on company policy. If you receive full pay for the time, you will receive 15 days pay.

Full pay is the normal practice, but I have worked for a company which only paid 50% for vacation time. So in a situation like that you would get 7 1/2 days pay.|||15 days is 15 work days.

This is slightly different than 'paid holiday', like the 4th of July or Memorial Day. These are holidays that you get off of work, and should get paid for them as though you were at work. Ask to see which days are called 'paid holidays'.

Don't abuse this though. But if you request the time off and your company says no, you have no recourse but to quit or be fired. If you are in the US the only exception to this is the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) it states that if you, or someone in your family is ill you have 12 weeks to take off (with doctors filling out all kinds of paperwork and going through Human Resources before hand). The company must hold your job for you, and you can not be laid off or fired, but it is still time off without pay, and only starts after all of your paid time off has been used.|||Nope. However, it is common practice to do so based upon how long an employee worked for the company.

The only way you will know what your company's policy is is to ask your supervisor. If the company has not developed a specific policy, they may agree to pay out the day to you. Your best bet to make this happen is to avoid making demands by making it a request.
