Are tax rates different in CA when you are getting paid for a bonus or accrued vacation hours?

I recently got a bonus from my company and they took out a huge amount for taxes, and then I got my accrued vacation pay and they took out 50% for taxes is this legal?|||yes taxes rate are different for bonuses
